WHEN MOTHERHOOD TAKES A DIFFERENT PATH

Baby Loss Podcast: When Motherhood Takes a Different Path

Honest conversations about miscarriage, stillbirth, baby loss, child loss and the life that continues afterwards.

Stories from parents who speak openly about their child, their grief, their love and what life looks like now.

No perfect words. No need to make the story smaller.

Just real conversations about what it means when parenthood takes a path you never expected.

Desirée van Nieuwenhoven speaking about baby and child loss

REAL STORIES. REAL PARENTS.

Because your child is more than the way they died.

When a baby or child dies, people often focus on the loss.

But there was also love. Expectation. A pregnancy. A birth. A name. A family. A future you had already begun to imagine.

And after loss, life does not simply stop.

In this baby loss podcast, parents tell their stories in their own words.

About miscarriage. Stillbirth. Neonatal loss. The death of an older child. Pregnancy after loss. Relationships. Work. Guilt. Anger. Love. Laughter. And the strange reality of learning how to live while still missing someone deeply.

Your child remains part of your story.
And so do you.

IN EVERY CONVERSATION

There is no script for grief. So there is no script for this podcast.

Every conversation is different, because every parent and every child is different.

We may talk about:

  • the pregnancy or the life you had with your child
  • the moment everything changed
  • saying goodbye
  • what other people did or did not understand
  • guilt, anger, fear or loneliness
  • relationships and family
  • returning to work
  • pregnancy or parenting after loss
  • birthdays, anniversaries and milestones
  • finding room for joy again
  • the ways your child is still part of your life

And sometimes we talk about something completely different.

Because this is not about fitting your story into a format.

It is about making room for your story as it really is.

SHARE YOUR STORY

Would you like to tell the story of your child?

Maybe you have thought about sharing your story before.

Maybe you have never spoken about it publicly.

Maybe there are things you wish people understood about baby or child loss.

Or maybe you simply want your child’s name and story to have a place where they can be heard.

You are welcome here.

You do not need to be a speaker.
You do not need to know exactly what you want to say.
You do not need to tell every part of your story.

Before we record anything, we first meet and talk.

We get to know each other. You can ask questions. We explore what you would and would not like to discuss.

Only then do we decide together whether recording an episode feels right.

What happens when you apply

1. Tell me a little about yourself

Fill in the form and tell me who you are, who your child is and why you would like to share your story.

2. We meet first

We have an informal conversation before recording. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

3. We record your story

If it feels right for both of us, we plan the podcast conversation.

There is no fixed script.

I guide the conversation, but you decide what belongs in your story.

Mothers are not the only ones who grieve

Fathers, partners and other parents carry their own stories too.

Their experience is sometimes quieter, less visible or simply different.

Those voices belong here as well.

If you are a father or parent who has experienced the loss of a baby or child and would like to share your story, you are warmly invited to apply.

Do you work with parents after baby or child loss?

I also speak with professionals whose work can help parents better understand what happens before, during or after loss.

That may include healthcare professionals, researchers, photographers, funeral professionals, counsellors or people creating meaningful change around baby and child loss.

The conversation always comes back to one question:

What might parents need to hear?

YOUR HOST

I am Desirée van Nieuwenhoven

I am the mother of Jasmijn, Tom and Tim.

After my own miscarriage and the stillbirths of Tom and Tim, I discovered how difficult it can be to find words for a life that has changed completely.

Years later, I know something else too:

You can deeply miss your child and still love your life.

Today I write, speak and guide conversations about baby and child loss.

Not to make grief disappear.

But to make more room for honest stories about what it means to live with loss.

That is what this podcast is part of.

Perhaps your story is the one someone needs to hear

You may never know who recognises themselves in your words.

Who hears their own feelings for the first time.

Who remembers that they are not the only parent carrying love and loss at the same time.

If you feel that your story wants to be told, I would love to hear from you.

Tell me about you.
Tell me about your child.
